Beauty and the Beast is such a beloved story—how do you make your version stand out visually from other interpretations?
Our version of Beauty and the Beast speaks through the art of classical ballet and in some scenes such as the Princes transformation into a Beast- contemporary dance elements. We also bring to life the Rose in delicate and beautiful human form. The Rose has a vital role that appears throughout reminding the Beast of his time left to fall in love and be loved in return.
Where did the visual inspiration come from?
The visual inspiration is based on the essence of the characters that are a strong part of the story and the choreography that brings them to life through dance.
How does the set design help tell the story—from village charm to castle mystery?
Various backdrops and props are used to set the story including special lighting for each scene and place.
What’s one costume or set piece you’re especially proud of in this production—and why?
We love the Rose as she has a lovely glittering red tule costume with shimmering green arms and legs to bring her character to life. We also love Belles stunning golden ball gown which is a picture of beauty and glamour.
What’s one secret detail in the set or costume most people won’t notice—but you love?
Definitely the Beasts mask! It looks so real and often is asked about from a make-up perspective.
