5 Quick questions with The Old Nick Company about Uni Revue
What is the Uni Revue?
The Old Nick Uni Revue is a yearly production that comments and pokes a bit of fun on the current events of the time. There is a lot of political satire, sketch comedy, parody songs and often a bit of nudity!
Where did it all begin?
It began in 1948 and is the longest running show of its type in Australia! The Old Nick Company has produced it every year, including during the pandemic (when they did a full-length film version!), and the whole thing began as a university student society production.
How has it evolved?
It has evolved over time to be more sensitive to the era – in days gone by the revue was known ‘punch down’ with the humour, however nowadays the team aims to ensure jokes punch in a more sensitive direction. There are also significant audiovisual special effects embedded into the show, with filmed revue sketches being integral to the production.
Why do people love it?
It’s a little bit rude, crude and nude – different to a stand up show, the Uni Revue offers a range of different scenes of different formats, catering to many different tastes – a huge range of music genres, jokes that reference different decades and captivating videos, all at a fast pace to keep audiences who are used to flicking from reel to reel engaged.
