Writers on Ice

Fri 27 Jun 2025 12:30 pm
Ian Potter Recital Hall

A literary event exploring the power of storytelling in the world’s most remote continent.

Writers on Ice brings together acclaimed writers of poetry, fiction, history and science whose work delves into the icy expanse of Antarctica. From ancient narratives and polar myths to contemporary novels, poems, and memoirs, this event showcases how literature helps us understand and imagine the far south in an era of climate crisis and expanding tourism.

Featuring Elizabeth Leane, Joy McCann, Robyn Mundy, Rebecca Priestley, and Branwell Roberts, Writers on Ice explores the creative challenges of writing about a continent often seen as “beyond representation,” and the role of storytelling in shaping our relationship with this fragile, frozen world. This is the closing event of the international Conference on Communication and Environment (COCE 2025), hosted by the University of Tasmania.
