Maharani Jindan - The last queen of Punjab
Maharani Jinda shares the remarkable story of Maharani Jind Kaur, the last Queen of the Sikh Empire, whose courage and resilience shaped one of the most turbulent chapters in 19th‑century Punjab.
This special evening begins with a culturally curated exhibition from 4pm, inviting audiences to explore artworks, objects, and stories that illuminate the world of Maharani Jind Kaur and the rich heritage of 19th‑century Punjab. A pre‑show function with food and refreshments offers a warm and welcoming opportunity to connect before the performance. The play commences at 7pm.
Told in Punjabi, the play follows her journey from royal power to political upheaval, revealing her fierce resistance to British forces and her determined fight to protect her young son, Maharaja Duleep Singh. Through vivid scenes and powerful dialogue, the production brings to life the intrigue, heartbreak, and defiance that defined her struggle.
Far from a tragic figure, Maharani Jinda emerges as a symbol of intelligence, strength, and unyielding spirit—an influential woman whose legacy endured long after the empire fell.
Presented by Rangmanchkaree Melbourne, this evocative work invites audiences to rediscover an often‑overlooked chapter of Indian history and the enduring force of a mother’s love.
