Saplings Hip-Hop Writing Workshop
Have you ever wanted to make music for a theatre show? Do you have a secret rap inside of you?
The Theatre Royal is offering you at chance to make your voice heard by attending a killer songwriting workshop for those aged under 26, with local hip-hop artist Kiz, youth worker and founder of You're Write. This hands-on workshop explores lyric writing, storytelling, and turning lived experience into rhythm and rhyme. Spend a full day crafting original tracks, with two participants selected to have their songs featured in Australia Theatre for Young People's award-winning show, Saplings when it hits the stage in Nipaluna/Hobart (from the 13–15 August). This show features a raw, original hip-hop soundtrack which was developed with young people who have lived experience of the youth justice system.
The songwriting workshop will take place in The Salon, a world class performance space on the ground floor of The Hedberg, made for exactly this kind of up-close creative work.
No experience necessary. Just bring yourself and your ideas. This is a relaxed, supportive space to help you find your voice.
Free ticket to Saplings Participants of the workshop will also be offered a free ticket to the opening night of Saplings in the Studio Theatre and will get to meet the cast post show!
Their friends who are under 30 can purchase a 30 under 30 discounted ticket for just $30.
