Project: There Will Be Catering

There Will Be Catering is a new contemporary theatre work by Clare Spillman that transforms the ritual of a funeral wake into a deeply personal, funny, and emotionally layered live performance event. Combining storytelling, music, hospitality, and contemporary performance elements, the work sits somewhere between theatre, memoir, gathering, and public confession.

At its heart, the work explores the uniquely complicated relationship between mothers and daughters — particularly within large Irish families where food, humour, storytelling, criticism, and obligation often operate as forms of love. Both deeply affectionate and sharply observant, the piece examines the emotional inheritance passed between generations: guilt, resilience, generosity, performance, silence, and the strange ways families attempt to care for one another.

Project: Spray Cans

Spray Cans is a queer focused story, inspecting the nature of generational and institutionalised prejudice within the Catholic Education System, exploring how faith and identity can influence who we are and who we can become. Set in the Australian culture of 2014, it is important for us as a creative team to produce an Australian Queer narrative, that highlights young people and champions young voices, touching on LGBTQ+ themes through a contemporary lens.
