After a sold-out season on London’s West End, Griffin Theatre Company’s original production of Suzie Miller’s award-winning tour de force commences its much-anticipated national tour.
Acclaimed actor Sheridan Harbridge commands the stage as Tessa, a criminal lawyer who knows the law permits no room for emotion. To win, you just need to believe in the rules. And Tessa loves to win, even when defending clients accused of sexual assault. But when she finds herself on the other side of the bar, Tessa is forced into the shadows of doubt she has so ruthlessly cast over others.
Prima Facie is an indictment of the Australian legal system’s failure to provide reliable pathways to justice for women. It’s a work of fiction, but one that could have been ripped from the headlines of any paper, any day of the week.
A must-see.

Fullers Reading List

Eggshell Skull – Bri Lee
Allen & Unwin

This is the story of Bri's journey through the Australian legal system; first as the daughter of a policeman, then as a law student, and finally as a judge's associate in both metropolitan and regional Queensland-where justice can look very different, especially for women.

Witness – Louise Milligan
Hachette Australia
Shortlisted for the 2021 Stella Prize

Broken: Children, Parents and Family Courts – Camilla Nelson & Catharine Lumby
Black Inc
Exploring the legal culture, gender politics and financial incentives that drive the system, Broken reveals how the family courts - despite the high ideals on which they were founded - have turned into the worst possible place for children and families devastated by domestic abuse.

Prima Facie – Suzie Miller
Currency Press
Read the ‘taut, rapid-fire and gripping’ playscript before you see the performance.

The Truth Hurts – Andrew Boe
Hachette Australia
The Truth Hurts is an unflinching exploration of the fault lines in our justice system by an outsider who found his way in.

“Sheridan Harbridge is superb as Tessa. Combative, controlled and clear-sighted in the first half, her decimation in the second is all the more gut-wrenching...”
