WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN YOU COME TO THE THEATRE ROYAL

Last Updated: Mon 18 Jan

Summary

All upcoming performances at Theatre Royal are held in accordance with the directions of Public Health Services Tasmania, and if there are changes to these directions we will provide updates with our ticket holders. All performances will include precautions such as physically distanced seating, collection of contact tracing details for every ticket holder, hand sanitisation stations at entrances, increased cleaning of public spaces and staff training in COVID safe procedures.

Please observe physical distancing (1.5m) at all times.

Box Office and booking tickets

Our Box Office is open Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm for telephone and email bookings.
From Monday 9 November our Box Office will be open to the public Monday to Friday 10am to 2pm and for 1 hour before a performance.
We would appreciate payments by card wherever possible to avoid handling of cash.
Physical distancing markers at queuing areas, such as bars and Box Office, are in place.

Print at home (PDF emailed) tickets are the preferred delivery method of your tickets. Please show your tickets on your phone if you are able to.

Online bookings will remain 24/7.

If you or a guest feels unwell

If you or a guest feel unwell or display any COVID 19 symptoms prior to a performance, you must not come to the theatre. In this event you would be offered the option to exchange for another performance, exchange for a voucher to be a spent at another time or a full refund.
Hand sanitisers are located at entrances around the venue as well as at Box Office, bars and the toilets.

Social distancing markers are placed on the floors to act as a guide.

Seating

The seating layout for the Theatre Royal has been modified to follow a ‘chequerboard’ plan where you can sit as a pair or in a single seat with at least 2 seats separating each group to the sides, in front and behind. Doors will be opened for you by Ushers therefore limiting the need to touch door handles and other surfaces when possible.

Cleaning

Cleaning has been increased, depending on the activity within the theatre. Automatic and manual hand sanitisers are available in many locations in the foyers, bathrooms and surrounding areas as well as signage to remind patrons to stay safe and hygienic.

Friday 20 March 2020

In response to advice issued by the Federal and Tasmanian Governments regarding non-essential indoor gatherings of greater than 100 people, we are saddened to announce that the Theatre Royal has had to postpone performances that were due to take place between Saturday 21 March and Saturday 30 May inclusive*. Please click here to see an up-to-date list of affected shows: https://www.theatreroyal.com.au/whats-on

This decision was not made lightly and we would like to take this opportunity to thank our audiences, partners and performers for their patience and support over the last few weeks.

Closing the Theatre Royal, and other arts venues around the country, has an unparalleled impact across our community and we are standing with our fellow artists, producers, Theatre Royal staff and supporters here in Tasmania and nationwide during this difficult time.

Our aim is to reschedule performances, however this may not be possible in all cases.

We will be contacting each ticket holder directly in the near future to offer refunds or discuss other alternatives. This process will take some time, so we thank you for your patience but please don’t hesitate to contact Box office if your query is urgent.

We hope you stay safe in these challenging circumstances and we look forward to welcoming you back to the Theatre Royal as soon as possible.

*Due to changing circumstances these dates could alter, in which case this statement will be updated.
