Ahead of your upcoming takara nipaluna (walking Hobart) booking, please note the below information to assist your full enjoyment of the tour. 

 

ARRIVAL TIME

Please arrive no later than 15 minutes prior to the start time at Mathers Place. On arrival, the tour’s Stage Manager will provide sound equipment for the tour. 

MEETING POINT

The walking tour begins at Mathers Place, 108-110 Bathurst Street, nipaluna/Hobart. Mathers Place is located between the Hobart State Library and the Playhouse Theatre. 

DURATION

The tour runs for approximately 90 mins, ending at Salamanca. 

HEADPHONES

takara nipaluna is an amplified audio tour. All audio equipment including headphones are provided and sanitised between each use. The use of personal headphones is welcomed; all headphones must have a 3.5mm (quarter inch) headphone jack to be compatible with receivers. 

PARKING

As takara nipaluna traverses the Hobart CBD, options for parking services are suggested for either the start or the conclusion of the tour.

Near Mathers House:
– On-street parking on Bathurst Street and surrounds
– Hobart Central Car Park (closes 6:30pm)

Salamanca Area:
– Salamanca Square Car Park (closes 8pm)
– Salamanca Place on-street parking 

Central parking options:
– Argyle Street Car Park (closes 10pm) 
– Centrepoint Car Park (closes 6:15pm weekdays)

ACCESSIBILITY

takara nipaluna is fully accessible for patrons with mobility issues, wheelchair users, or those who have children in prams. The tour is 1.4km with 15 stops, including an accessible toilet break halfway through, and several sit-down locations. The walk is mostly downhill, with one incline from Elizabeth Street Mall to Franklin Square.  People with hearing loss are catered for via the use of personal headsets. If you have any specific enquiries regarding accessibility, please contact the Theatre Royal Box Office. 

WET WEATHER

The tour will proceed in most weather conditions, including light rain. We encourage you to bring an umbrella or raincoat for changeable conditions, or the tour’s Stage Manager can provide rain ponchos. If the forecast conditions are inappropriate for an outdoor tour, you will be contacted in advance with alternative arrangement options.

A. The tour covers a walk of 1.4km, almost all downhill and is a very gentle walk.

Q. Is takara nipaluna suitable for children?
A. takara nipaluna is suitable for children 11 years and above. Parents can bring younger children and babies in prams at their discretion. Each headset given out requires a purchased ticket.

Q. Will I be able to ask questions?
A. Questions are encouraged and a handout with extra information and resources is provided at the conclusion of takara nipaluna.

Q. Are there food or restroom stops?
A. There will be a restroom break halfway through takara nipaluna. The timing of takara nipaluna does not allow for a food/beverage break. We recommend that you bring a water bottle. If you require a restroom prior to takara nipaluna, public restrooms are located at the Bathurst Street car park, across the road from Mathers House (tour start) or the State Library of Tasmania.
