Johannes Brahms Sonata No. 3 for Violin and Piano in D minor, Op. 108

Here is a program of great contrast and range. Dvorák’s nostalgic and folksy Sonatina, written for his two children, is followed by Lutosławski’s ambitious and challenging Partita. Then Leonard Bernstein’s solo piano homage to Aaron Copland, American Lukas Foss’s neo classicism, a new work from Australian Paul Stanhope, and finally Johannes Brahms’ tragic and stormy sonata.
