Visit our Contact page for Box Office details and contact information for our organisation.
The Theatre Royal is located at 29 Campbell Street, Hobart, Tasmania.
The Theatre Royal consists of a Main Stage and the Backspace, a small studio theatre.
The Main Stage has three levels. The Stalls are on the ground level. The Dress Circle is the first floor level (accessed via stairs). And the Gallery is on the top level of the theatre (access via two flights of stairs), seating is bench only, there may be some visibility issues for small children. If you’d like any further information, please contact our Box Office staff for more information on seating.
Our seats are categorised as follows:
PREMIUM: Excellent seats, the absolute best in the house
A RESERVE: Great seats with a clear view
B RESERVE: Good seats, with slight sightline interference
C RESERVE: Good value, but with restricted viewing
The Theatre Royal Backspace is a great venue for up close and personal theatre experiences and we’re pleased to continue to give you a taste of what’s ahead in the soon-to-be built new studio theatre next door to the Theatre Royal. This new studio theatre will enable us to present a variety of performances that are best enjoyed in a smaller space.

Where to Park
If you are collecting tickets from the Box Office, a 5 minute parking zone is located outside the Theatre in Campbell Street.
For long term parking we suggest Market Place car park, Dunn Place car park or Greenco Parking in Collins Street all three are open 24hrs 7 days a week. If you require a taxi you can contact Taxis Combined on 13 22 27, please ask a staff member if you require assistance in making a call.
For show information and to purchase tickets go to the What's On menu; alternatively you can contact our friendly Box Office staff for assistance.
Whilst we encourage customers to collect their tickets well in advance of the show to avoid queuing, tickets may be collected from our Box Office prior to a performance on our main stage (please allow at least 30 mins before the show). All ticket sales are final, however our staff will endeavour to assist you as best they can should you require help.
Our foyer bars offer a selection of beverages and snacks for you to enjoy during the show; food and drinks are permitted inside the venue (excluding hot items). Cash and eftpos payment accepted.
Our venue is a licensed premise and alcohol not purchased from us may not be brought onto or consumed on our premises.
Due to the historic nature of the building, the Theatre Royal unfortunately does not have extensive facilities for patrons with a disability. There is however, level access to the Theatre Royal ground floor foyer and the Stalls level of the auditorium from Sackville Street (in between the Theatre Royal and the Theatre Royal Hotel). Accessible seats are held specifically for sale through the Box Office (03 6233 2299) to meet the needs of patrons using wheelchairs or requiring assistance. The Theatre Royal is unfortunately only equipped with toilets on the Dress Circle level, this is up two short flights of stairs and the venue is not equipped with lifts. Our Front of House staff are always happy to assist in any way that they can.
Please note the Backspace Theatre can only be accessed via stairs.
Assisted Hearing Service
The Theatre Royal main auditorium is equipped with an Assisted Hearing Service. This service offers amplified sound through dedicated headphones or using a neckloop that interacts with modern hearing aid devices. There are a limited number of these units and bookings are essential.
Please contact our Box Office - 03 6233 2299 to discuss your needs and reserve a device for your attendance.
