Following sell-out seasons across Australia, this hilarious smash-hit production by The Escapists is a stunning celebration of theatricality, imagination and the joy of play.

The Flood
The Flood 10/08/2012 To 11/08/2012

THE THEATRE ROYAL PRESENTS A CRITICAL STAGES AND FINUCANE & SMITH PRODUCTION

From internationally acclaimed, multi-award winning creators Finucane & Smith comes the haunting and electrifying work The Flood.

The sheep farm is dilapidated. The farmhouse, dark and squalid, sits by the river, sheltering a mad old lady, and her isolated hard-drinking daughter. Memories are seeping through the floorboards. As the sun sets, the floodwaters rise. The screen door bangs open in the rain and wind; Catherine has returned after 20 years.

The past is here.

Through the mesmerising friction between estranged sisters, fuelled by alcohol and uncertain memories of a long-dead father, three women are trapped with a past no one wants to remember.

Bristling with dark humour and edge-of-the-seat performances by three of our finest actresses, The Flood is startlingly authentic writing, plunging audiences into the lives of characters so real you feel you know them; a web of family intrigue against the haunting Australian outback.

This is a Theatre Royal Season 2012 show and is available for Season package discounts.

The School for Wives
The School for Wives 29/08/2012 To 1/09/2012

THE THEATRE ROYAL PRESENTS A BELL SHAKESPEARE PRODUCTION

Falling in love is never easy. Take our hero Arnolphe for instance. Now here’s a guy who wants desperately to get married but is afraid that a smart woman will cheat on him. His ingenious solution? Enlist the help of a local convent to raise a girl so stupidly innocent that she won’t know the first thing about cheating – let alone the last. In his mind she will be ever-faithful.

The perfect wife. Or is she?

Following on from her success with Twelfth Night, Lee Lewis directs this fresh new translation from Justin Fleming of Moliere’s comedic train-wreck of a love story that tangles innocence with arrogance – and the other way around.

Rhinestone Rex and Miss Monica
Rhinestone Rex and Miss Monica 5/10/2012 To 6/10/2012

THE THEATRE ROYAL PRESENTS AN ENSEMBLE THEATRE PRODUCTION

Can a country cowboy and a sophisticated virtuoso change their tune for love? What do a classical musician and retired country and western singer have in common? Not a lot according to Monica who really just wants Gary, aka Rhinestone Rex, to do the job he’s being paid for and renovate her kitchen. She hates his taste in music, his attitudes to women and the columns he wants to put on her kitchen cabinets.

Gary can’t find much about Monica to recommend to anyone but still finds her attractive in a cold, rigid and inflexible kind of way. Can they find a way past all their conflicts towards a harmonious and fulfilling relationship? Or will their differences keep them from making beautiful music together?

Rhinestone Rex and Miss Monica is master playwright David Williamson’s 43rd play, and director Sandra Bates’ twelfth Williamson production.

This is a Theatre Royal Season 2012 show and is available for Season package discounts.
